The Fourth Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), organised in partnership with the General Authority of Civil Aviation of the United Arab Emirates, is taking place from 10 to 12 February 2025 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The GISS is one of the ICAO's most important events, whose aim is to improve the safety, security and sustainability of civil aviation at a global level. Previous editions of the symposium have been held in Istanbul (Turkey), Seoul (South Korea) and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic). This, the fourth edition, was opened by His Excellency Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Civil Aviation of the United Arab Emirates, and by His Excellency Salvatore Sciacchitano, ICAO Council President. In the opening speech, Excellency Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri said: ‘These events contribute to the launch of new programmes, initiatives and recommendations aimed at supporting international efforts to develop the civil aviation sector, increasing competitiveness, sustainability and promoting investment in advanced technological innovations. For his part, Salvatore Sciacchitano, ICAO Council President, said that this particular Symposium will focus on two critical areas that are transforming the sector: sustainability and artificial intelligence, ensuring both the safety and security of aviation operations, which involves long-term economic viability and operational efficiency. All 193 participating countries are honouring the launch of the first edition of the ‘Global Sustainable Aviation Market’ (GSAM), a pioneering initiative by the United Arab Emirates, which aims to accelerate global efforts to produce alternative, low-carbon fuels for the international civil aviation sector. ANGOLA is participating in the event with a delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Transport, Dr Ricardo Viegas D'Abreu and including ANAC's Chairwoman, Amélia Domingues Kuvíngua and senior officials from ANAC, ENNA, ARCCLA, SGA and the Transport Ministry. |
